アルマスGALLERYによる企画展、勝部敏之『インタビュー』を7月9日（土）から7月23日（土）まで開催する運びとなりましたので、お知らせさせていただきます。勝部の作品では、分解と再構築に対する実験が繰り返されます。雑誌の記事や写真、新聞といった紙媒体から無作為に抽出したページやイメージをモチーフとして、10本の濃度違いのシャープペンシルを駆使し、紙に描き出していきます。
まず1mm単位のグリッドを引きピクセルを作り、それを1マスごとに塗りつぶしモチーフを微分していくことで、描写と出力の境目を曖昧にし、参照元の写真や記事が持つ固有の意味を変質させます。執拗にピクセルに分解された写真や記事は、それまでには無かった不穏な空気と、単一の単位の反復による視覚的な快楽性をはらんだものとなります。
そこには現代において、常に提供されるイメージを我々が信じ切っていないこと、それでいてイメージを欲っすることをやめられない表層を愛でる態度を暴露されるような赤裸々さが潜んでいます。
今回の個展では、アンディ・ウォーホルが創刊した『Interview』誌をモチーフとしたインタビューシリーズを中心とした新作展になります。是非ご来場の上、ご高覧いただければ幸いです。
アーティストステートメント
2010年11月14日。ふとしたきっかけから、ある古書屋へ立ち寄った。古いながらも保存状態のよい雑誌がところ狭しと丁寧に並んでいた。その中から興味を惹いたものから順に広げては数ページを眺めていった。ふと左側の棚の上に目を遣ると棚には入りきらなかったであろう雑誌や本がビニールに包まれ積み上げられていた。
その中に「1970代インタビュー」と書かれた手書きのメモが貼り付けられた新聞の束らしきものを見つけた。新聞の束。それはすべてアンディ・ウォーホルが創刊したインタビューというタブロイドだった。著名人へのインタビューや映画のレビュー、新しいレコードやイベントの広告。更新も削除もされない記事は当時のまま。すべての時間が止まったまま。
紙はすっかり酸化していて、今にも破れやすくなっていた。刷り上がったままの姿で、ただ見てくれだけが老いぼれていた。僕が生きている間はまだ形を留めているだろうけど、僕のひ孫のひ孫あたりになるとどうなっていることやら。止まったままの中身をそのまんま描いた。僕が描いたこの絵もやがてはシミまみれになって、変色して、もろくなっていくのだろう。まぁ、この僕だってその真っ最中だ。

Harmas Gallery is pleased to announce the exhibition by Toshiyuki Katsube from 9th to 23rd July, 2011. Katsube repeats experiment the process of breaking down and restructuring, and depicts a sense of himself. Its most motifs are photos and pages of newspapers and magazines. First, he breaks the picture into square pieces and fills in areas of graphic. This process makes your vision blurry a line between depiction and print and changes some aspects of the original subject of document, also holds enormous potentialities such as a restlessness, a repetitiveness or an entertainment.
You are in doubt about whether you can take at face value the information, however, you know that the information has definitely something you can’t drop. His work pulls the plug on such part of parcel.
This exhibition is in tribute to “Andy Warhol’s Interview Magazine”.
Artist Statement
November 14, 2010, I dropped in an antiquarian bookstore, where was crammed with well-preserved antiquarian books and magazines, and browsed some of them. As I looked towards the left shelf, I found a stack of newspaper that didn’t fit in the book stands. It was 70s’ Interview magazine. It’s a newspaper style tabloid founded by artist Andy Warhol and Gerard Malanga and it featured cutting-edge graphics, interviews of celebrities, and reviews of films. Today its article is getting old stuff and its story just provides insight into the culture of that time. Its papers are getting oxidized and friable. This is the way everything should always be. Come to think of it, you are in the same way, too. I believe.

*Leave by the exit 6 of station. You can see an overpass on your right and go under it. Turn right at the corner in front of glasses shop, and go to 3 blocks straight on and turn left. You can find the sign at enter the driveway, and Harmas Gallery is the last on the private road.
